About Us

Established in 2016, Bespoke Apothecary, LLC is a 100-acre forest farm, apiary, and NYS & FDA certified food processing facility situated high atop the Appalachian Mountains, in Elmira, NY.

Also known since 2010 as Dead Dog Farm, which turns out to be polarizing for most, but its message is one of empathy and compassion, and modeled after this notion:

"Of all the people in the world, the best and the worst are drawn to Dead Dog, and most turn away. Only those with the purest of heart can feel its pain. And somewhere in between, the rest of us struggle."

Bespoke Apothecary is a husband-and-wife herbal team made up of April Hart and Bill Krovetcz, whose primary focus is their community.

"It all started as a small hobby farm to help ourselves, and it turned into much more."

It all started as a small hobby farm to help ourselves, and it turned into much more.  Beginning with a couple of free-range chickens, honey bees, and a few organic crops.  Then, shortly after, in late 2010, a breast cancer diagnosis changed our lives and perspectives.

Foregoing a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone suppression, we chose a natural and holistic approach to dealing with a disease, and began to change our lifestyles completely.  We started to become more mindful of the world around us and how that world affects us physically, emotionally, and mentally.  We studied and learned transcendental meditation, reiki, cell-level healing, permaculture design through Cornell University, and more.   The farm’s focus became more holistic, which pushed it in the direction of biodynamic farming practices and sustainability.  Our personal focus became more holistic as well.  We stopped using the harmful things that made us out of balance and a fertile ground for dis-ease.  We turned to the world literally right outside our door and began to learn how to use plants and plant medicine to heal and thrive.

Not just with April’s breast cancer, but also with our Lyme disease later on in 2018.

After using food as medicine initially, we dove head first into herbal coursework with multiple seasoned herbalists over the last decade and began making natural herbal products and sharing them with friends and family.

This was primarily due to my need for non-toxic and balancing personal care items of our own.  And it has now snowballed into a full skin care line, hair, tooth and bodycare products, herbal beverages, tonics, teas, syrups, and over 160 different individual plant based tinctures.

A complete herbal pharmacy!

In the beginning, we never remotely fathomed that something amazing would happen.  That people would end up loving the products, and they would actually impact others.

And today, we are at the place where we have filled over 20,000 online orders and shipped all over the US.  (check out our hundreds of positive reviews on our webstore!)

As time progressed and after researching and turning our attention to the woods that make up our forest farm, we began drawing deep inspiration from the spirit and teachings of the indigenous people of the Gayogohó:nǫʼ Nation and Haudenosaunee Confederacy who first lived, walked, harvested, and kept mindful care of this land we now reside on.

Bespoke Apothecary was born out of a need to heal ourselves, and what it has turned into is beyond a dream come true for us.

And as our passion for plants grows, our life’s path and meaning has been fully revealed.

We have humbly become a grateful and sacred conduit to pair plants and people with the intention to restore balance within the people who make up our beloved community.

Bespoke means goods made to order.  Apothecary means one who prepares medicines. Being that we make small batch custom plant-based medicines and products, we feel this name represents who we are and what we do.

We hope you enjoy our handmade made products made mindful love and care!

You can find them at our many retailers listed here, order online for local/Elmira lockbox pick up, or we will gladly ship them to you.

Or check out our monthly in person event schedule!

And please contact us with any custom herbal product needs.

For more in depth help, we offer herbal consultation as well as have a customized wellness kit available on our webstore.
